Lake Ferndale – Lake Ferndale is a 50-acre private community Lake and often you may have the Lake all to yourself.  It is a great place for swimming, sunning, picnicking, low key fishing, and kayaking or canoeing.  The Lake is a fairly long walk from the Cabin, so it is really easiest to drive there. With the Cabin comes the key to get into the Lake and there is parking right here. The Lake is always quite and peaceful.

Swimming – The Lake is spring fed from the surrounding mountains so that the water is crystal clear and wonderful for swimming. In the summer, it is refreshing but never cold.  Because the water increases in depth gradually as it moves from sand to rock bottom, it is a great place for wading and supervised swimming for all ages.

The Beach – The Sandy Private Beach slopes down to the water.  It is a perfect place to sit in the sun or make sandcastles.  The small beach has white sand and is just the thing for kids. It is also a peaceful and a fantastic place to watch the sunset.

Picnicking – Right next to the Beach are Picnic Tables under beautiful pine trees where you can enjoy a meal while looking at the Lake.

Fishing – The Lake is stocked with Small Mouth Bass and so is a great place to do a little fishing.  However, if you are really looking to fish more seriously, there is Great Fishing in the South Branch of the Potomac River just two miles away. It's got lots of flat water and public ramps.

Kayaking and Canoeing – The Lake is a perfect place to bring your Kayak or Canoe for a little easy paddling.  There is a place to launch your boat and since only electric motors are allowed and this keeps everything quiet and still.  It’s a lovely place to boat.  If you are looking for more adventurous waters, the South Branch of the Potomac River is two miles away from Cabin in the Woods.
